Spice Girls announce reunion and huge 2019 shows

Spice Girls reunion

The Spice Girls have announced their first tour for a decade, with six UK stadium dates in June next year.

Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Melanie Chisholm revealed details of the reunion tour in a video in the style of a news bulletin on Monday.

Victoria Beckham, however, is not expected to take part.

The girl group will kick off their tour at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on 1 June 2019, with tickets for all dates going on sale on Saturday at 10.30 GMT.
The foursome will also perform in Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Bristol, finishing at London’s Wembley Stadium. They will be supported by Jess Glynne.

The first photo from their comeback confirms that Victoria Beckham will not have any part in their reunion. Beckham is said to be concentrating on her fashion label, a career that has arguably given her the greatest post-pop success of any Spice Girls member.

“Girl power is back”, a source told the newspaper. “This is the biggest music comeback of the decade and tickets are expected to sell like hotcakes when they go on sale at the weekend.”

The iconic pop group initially split in 2000 after Geri Halliwell left the group before reuniting for a massive comeback tour in 2007 and 2008. They played their final performance at the Olympics Closing Ceremony in 2012.

Back in February, all five members of the iconic girl group were considering reunion plans, saying that “the time feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together”. Each band member is said to have received $17m to promote a new greatest hits album, along with appearances on talent shows and various endorsements. An animated superhero movie, with the five singers voicing characters who promote a “girl-power message”, is allegedly also in the works.
