Sonido Pesao Announces ATEMPORAL & Montreal Launch▪

Sonido Pesao will release ATEMPORAL, a 10-track album co-produced with Sebastián Riquelme, on 13 November. The Montreal group launches it a night early, on 12 November at Theatre Sainte-Catherine, on a double bill with Boogát, who is also marking the release of a new album.

Sonido Pesao formed in Montreal in 2016 and mixes Latin music with rock, hip-hop and urban styles. The current line-up is Chellz (Ronald Lemus Barrientos), Luny (Marco Antonio Aguilar), Élo (Élodie Sono Synnott), Javier Muñoz Maldonado and Julien Senez Gagnon. The members’ roots run across Latin America, and the band has built its following on stage, playing across Quebec over the past two years as well as in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto. In September they played POP Montreal at Le Ministère. Their first album, Reír para no llorar, came out in 2016.

The songwriting on ATEMPORAL is shared between Chellz, Élo Sono, Riquelme, Muñoz, Boogát and Vlooper of Alaclair Ensemble. The guest list is long: Shauit, Akawui, Baby K, KNLO, Rila and Rulo of Los Tetas all appear.

The album is built to be heard in order, with interludes running between the songs. Some of those interludes come from recordings the band had kept in its archives for years, now reworked to fit the record’s idea of older sounds and rhythms carried into the present. The songs deal with love, war, peace and celebration.

Three singles are already out. “Ce soir” came first, followed by “Machuca” featuring Rila, whose video aired on Salut Bonjour. On 14 October the band released “BRASSE-LÉ!”, a collaboration with KNLO and Baby K.

The Boogát pairing has history. Sonido Pesao’s 2020 album Todo Revuelto included “Dime Que Sí”, a track featuring the Quebec-based Latin artist, released as a teaser single ahead of that record.

The band has picked up a run of awards in recent years: the Syli d’Or, the Prix de la diversité, Best Urban Group at the 2023 Latin Awards Canada and Best Urban Fusion Song at the Canadian Latin Awards. ATEMPORAL is distributed by Amplitude.

After the Montreal launch, the band heads to Quebec City for a show at Bar L’Anti on 28 November.
