Fast-rising UK singer SAM SMITH plays Montreal for the first time ever on Monday, January 19 with a show at the Bell Centre.
The young English singer-songwriter (aged 22), rose to fame in October 2012 when he was featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch”, which peaked at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. His subsequent appearance on Naughty Boy’s “La La La” earned him his first number 1 single in May 2013.
In 2014, Smith won the BRIT Critics’ Choice Award and topped the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll. He released his debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in May, along with the lead single, “Lay Me Down”. He then released “Money on My Mind” and “Stay with Me,” which were an international success, peaking in both the UK Singles chart and the U.S. Billboard Pop Songs chart; it also reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
So far, he’s nominated in four categories at the MTV Europe Music Awards, which will air on November 9.
In Quebec, Smith’s album has sold more than 10,000 copies, and his third single ”I’m Not the Only One” is already making waves on radio.
