Roxane Bruneau @ MTelus

MTELUS was buzzing on Tuesday night, unsurprisingly. As people waited for Roxane Bruneau to take the stage, some had the chance to have their photo taken in front of the poster for her new album or at the makeshift photo booth. It was a night for celebrating the Québécois singer and everyone had bought tickets long before hearing the album.

Bruneau released her third album, “Submergé”, on November 17th. It may have been only four days later that she debuted it, but her fans were already singing along to show their love for the new music.

Love is the right word for the energy of that room when Bruneau finally appeared. It was clear that she could feel it too; by the end of the first song, she became quite emotional at the response from her fans.

However, it was Bruneau’s perfect comedic timing and on-the-nose jokes about her outfit and new “sexy tune” that set the tone for a fun, lighthearted performance. Later, she enthusiastically accepted a fan’s request to draw them a tattoo and crouched down to scribble on a piece of cardboard that had crowd-surfed the audience to reach her. We all laughed with her when it was discovered that the fan in question was only sixteen.

To perform “Côté Passager,” Bruneau was joined by her collaborator on the song, Souldia, and some fiery visuals on the screen behind them.

“Submergé” is clearly on track to be another successful era of Bruneau’s career. Witnessing the response from the fans that came out to MTELUS for its debut solidified that prediction.

A special shout-out to the guy wearing a Santa hat in the standing area! You looked cool, but it’s still way too early for that, dude.
