Among the highlights, Montreal indie favourite Patrick Watson is set to bring back his Sacred Sunday performance as part of the festival’s Kids POP programming, a family-friendly show that’s free of charge. Hip-hop collective Nomadic Massive will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a free outdoor concert, while Tucson indie rockers Calexico have a location-based, intimate performance planned.

Another addition this year is the debut of Comedy POP, an expansion that adds a comedy element to the typically music-centric festival.

The bulk of the lineup was originally announced in May, with artists like folk-gospel singer Iris DeMent, Parisian new wave band Edith Nylon, and Cash Money Records’ own Mannie Fresh on the bill. The festival’s 23rd edition will also see performances by new-age folk artist Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Canadian rapper Skratch Bastid, and Toronto singer-songwriter Luna Li.

Local talent will play a big role this year, with Montreal bands Stars and The Dears performing their iconic albums Set Yourself on Fire and No Cities Left, respectively, both of which turn 20 in 2024. In addition, there’s a tribute to late Montreal singer-songwriter Lhasa de Sela, with artists like Feist and Klô Pelgag leading the charge.

POP Montreal continues its tradition of combining big-name international acts with homegrown talent, offering a blend of concerts, family events, and even a Wizard of Oz-themed Kiki Ball. Fans can expect a mix of sounds and experiences that highlight the festival’s commitment to diversity and community engagement.

The festival runs until September 29, with more events and surprises to be announced along the way.
