Podcasts for Musicians and Music Lovers

It was April 24th, 2006 when I released the first episode of Outside the Artist’s Studio.  It was a show helping creatives with the business side of things, along with my co-host and lifelong friend Kevin Jenne.

This was back when you had to first explain the concept of a Podcast, and then show people how to access it.

Episode 23, September 13, 2009 was the final one, on the rooftop of a hotel in the town of Tequila, Mexico.

As of March 2022, according to buzzsprout.com, there are over 2,423,127 podcasts and over 62 million episodes.  We’ve come a long way.

Pivotal Moment

I stood up, in a room with 1,000 people at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, getting my deepest desires dissected by Philip McKernan on October 8th, 2017.

Philip made me realize that I needed to continue Podcasting, but this time, helping musicians in some way.

I didn’t meet my promised deadline of December 1, 2017 but I had a name:  Rock Star Today

2020 was a crazy time for the music industry, and a pandemic was the impetus to get the ball rolling on April 12th, 2020.

Season 1 was interviews with Ted Talk speakers, best-selling authors, and truly engaging entrepreneurs to give an outsider’s perspective for an industry that had its head under water at that time.

We spoke to a contestant of The Voice (France edition), a light engineer that has worked on stadium tours, and some outside the industry with a fresh perspective.

Fascinating conversations.

MasterMind:  Music Business Jam Session

Along with the Podcast, I took the MasterMind framework that I do across the country with IT Business owners and applied it to the music business.

I now call it a Music Business Jam Session.

No more than 10 guests, on Zoom, using the power of peers to solve deep problems.

Always done at no cost to musicians, but with incredible value to those who attend.

It was a smashing success and some great connections were made.

Season 2

Season 2 is underway with a focus on industry leaders.

We speak with 3 back to back publicists, a Juno judge…and whoever else I feel will bring value to the table.

What are your biggest pain points?

What do you struggle with?

What do you want to learn to help you succeed?

Let me know.  I just might know the perfect guest.
