Pixel Grip, the Chicago-based electronic trio known for their industrial-meets-synth-pop aesthetic, are bringing their dark, club-ready energy back to Montreal this October as part of their Percepticide North American tour. The show lands at Foufounes Électriques on Tuesday, October 7, with local or touring openers yet to be announced.
The tour arrives just months after the release of Percepticide: The Death of Reality, the band’s third full-length, out June 12 via Pixel Grip Music. The album continues the conceptual trajectory set by 2021’s Arena, but pushes further into abrasive textures, heavy basslines, and the politicized personal narratives that vocalist Rita Lukea has become known for. The title itself is a portmanteau — combining “percipere” (to perceive) and the suffix “-cide” — hinting at a broader interrogation of modern reality and its distortions.
Lukea, speaking on the album’s intent, described Percepticide as rooted in psychological trauma and empowerment through confrontation. “Percepticide is a cognitive distortion,” she explained in a statement. “Beliefs you hold to be true are shattered — as you question everyone and everything around you.” The album’s lead single, “Reason to Stay,” released earlier this spring, is a cathartic burst of aggression anchored by a relentless bassline and a shouted chorus that doubles as a personal manifesto.
Montreal’s gig at Foufounes marks one of three Canadian stops on the run, with the band also hitting Toronto’s Lee’s Palace on October 8 and Vancouver’s The Pearl on November 5. The tour spans 26 cities and will wrap up with a hometown show at Chicago’s Metro on November 14.
Pixel Grip’s live sets are known for their theatricality and intensity, blending Lukea’s commanding presence with the duo’s precise, often punishing production. Montreal fans who caught their previous gigs will likely know what to expect — a sweaty, immersive experience somewhere between warehouse rave and political exorcism.
