Pianist Jonathan Turgeon ventures into experimental territory

Pioneering pianist and composer Jonathan Turgeon has announced his latest solo project, Colorum Temporis, slated for release on April 5th. Departing from his established contemporary compositions, Turgeon delves into experimental electroacoustic realms with this new venture.

With a repertoire that seamlessly blends elements of jazz, rock, and classical influences, Turgeon has left an indelible mark on the music scene with albums like “Au fil des feuilles qui craquent” (2015), “Les rêves errants” (2017), “Jonction” (2018), and “L’abîme” (2021).

Colorum Temporis represents a departure from his previous works, as Turgeon explores the fusion of electro, musique concrète, lo-fi jazz, and hip-hop. Drawing inspiration from contemporary artists such as J3PO and Knower, Turgeon embarks on a dynamic sonic journey, employing synthesizers, drum machines, and effects pedals to create a rich auditory landscape.

The album, co-produced with Jean-Philippe Godbout (Gazoline), features a notable collaboration with saxophonist Alex Dodier on the single “Au crépuscule, un étang” (At dusk, a pond), adding depth and texture to Turgeon’s experimental compositions.

Turgeon’s versatility extends beyond his solo projects, with notable contributions to collaborative efforts such as Sport National (2023) and composer Hugo Blouin’s “Charbonneau ou les valeurs à bonne place” volumes 1 (2018) and 2 (2022). His collaboration with flutist Nadia Labrie on Claude Bolling’s “Flûte Passion: Suite 1” further demonstrates his prowess across diverse musical genres.

Colorum Temporis promises to be a bold exploration of sound, offering audiences a unique and immersive auditory experience. Turgeon’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of musical expression continues to inspire and captivate listeners worldwide.
