Palomosa Festival Review

Day 1

Fizz Stage:

M.I.A. spent the first half of her performance playing some of her older songs, even joking about the fact that some of the fans in the crowd were younger than the songs she was playing. After a selection of diverse and original songs, M.I.A. decided to use her platform to raise awareness for Palestine and deliver a confusing speech on her support for Trump. The rain hit hard, but at least she ended the night with a bang as “Paper Planes” closed out Day 1.

Nettspend delivered one of, if not the best, sets of the night, as he hyped up the crowd and had them moshing to every song. The Virginia artist started his performance with a darker vibe, as spotlights beamed down on him in his black jacket, but swiftly changed to a more energetic atmosphere as he jumped down to the main stage and started interacting with fans, too, as he performed.

Fcukers had the most surprising set of Day 1 for me. I wasn’t familiar with their music before, but their songs and vibe quickly made me a fan. Shannon Wise, the main singer for the group, was filled with energy as she jumped around in between songs and did a great job singing nearly every lyric. Jackson Walker Lewis also delivered a great performance, as the guitarist’s cool vibe made it hard to keep your eyes off him as he played his tunes on the electric guitar.

The Hellp really kicked off Day 1 as their unique music brought in a crowd that would stay mostly at the main stage for the rest of the day. The duo mostly stayed in the same place during the performance as they were doing many of the effects for their songs live, but regardless, they had the crowd excited as the transitions between songs were seamless, and the raw emotion in the singing impacted the audience.

Du Jardin Stage:

TDJ ended Day 1 at the Du Jardin Stage in style as the DJ played some classic songs mixed with some of her own to get the crowd bouncing and finishing the night strong.

Minna-No-Kimochi brought the vibes with them as the two DJs went back and forth on the DJ set, playing songs from all around the globe. The mixes were fun and energetic, leading to a great buildup for the last performance of the night at the Du Jardin Stage.

Mechatok hit the stage earlier in the day but still attracted a larger crowd as the DJ had a great song selection and seamless transitions. Mechatok made sure to play some of the songs that he’s produced too, which are classics like “MAKKA” by the upcoming artist fakemink.

MRD had a killer set as the Norwegian DJ brought some great vibes that kept the crowd content and dancing the entire time.

Day 2

Fizz Stage:

The Venezuelan artist Arca had the crowd extremely hyped up for her set, as some of them even brought flags to show support. Arca’s set was amazing, as her high energy ensured that everyone stayed dancing as she sang and used the DJ booth.

Rebecca Black was a name I hadn’t heard in a while, but her performance definitely left a mark on me. Black kicked off her set with a lot of energy and kept it up the whole time as she did a terrific job singing while also performing impressive, choreographed dances with her background dancers. Many funny props, such as glasses of sugar water cyanide, were used and ensured the crowd felt noticed.

Yeule had a beautiful set as the artist played her electric guitar while singing some amazing songs with crushing lyrics. The lights, too, for her set were remarkable and had the stage looking like a light show as the atmosphere was constantly changing to adapt to her new songs.

Marie Davidson had a fun set as the French-Canadian producer played her biggest songs, interacting with the crowd and ensuring everyone had a good time.

Loukeman had a chill DJ set early on in the day that attracted a lot of people because of the fun and bouncy music that was played. Later in the set, the vibes started to change a bit as the DJ played songs like “Flawless” by Yeat.

Du Jardin Stage:

¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U’s set was the highlight of the night as an enormous crowd formed to watch the Japanese DJ deliver a killer set. The vibes were up, and everyone was bumping their heads to the high-energy songs that were being played.

MCRDJ, the trio that consisted of TDJ, MCR-T, and MRD, killed their set as the three DJs’ worlds collided to deliver a unique but amazing-sounding blend of songs. With many well-known songs being remixed and given their own unique spin, the crowd had a blast singing along and dancing the whole time.

Cult Member delivered an amazing set as the Montreal-based DJ played some of his best mixes, which had everyone in the crowd dancing.

Shadow Wizard Money Gang brought the rave vibes early in the day, as hardcore electronic music blasted throughout the Du Jardin Stage. The Wizards showed out as they transitioned from more well-known songs to underground bangers.

Lia Plutonic started the day off right with some good vibes, which had a modest but energetic crowd ready for the performances to come.
