Hannah Judge, the multi-faceted artist behind the DIY indie rock project fanclubwallet, is finally trading in her solo act for a full-band experience. Today, she unveils her first EP with her live bandmates, aptly titled Our Bodies Paint Traffic Lines, set for release on March 29th via Cool Online.
This four-track EP marks a turning point for fanclubwallet, previously known for Judge’s bedroom pop creations. Joined by bassist Nathan Reid, guitarist Eric Graham, and drummer Michael Watson (who also produced and mixed the EP), Judge embraces the collaborative energy of a quartet. The shift is evident in the EP’s lead single, “Band Like That,” which boasts a fuller sound compared to earlier releases.
“I had spent months studying everyone else’s bands,” Judge admits in a press release, reflecting on the inspiration behind the single. “What made them so good? Why couldn’t I be like them? And that’s where this new track came from.” The result is an exhilarating anthem infused with driving guitars and Judge’s characteristically punchy vocals, hinting at an exciting new direction for fanclubwallet.
Our Bodies Paint Traffic Lines promises to explore the ups and downs of navigating the music world, a theme present throughout Judge’s work. With the added input of her bandmates, the EP delves deeper into these complexities, likely resonating with fellow artists and anyone chasing their creative dreams.
Fans can get a taste of the new sound with the video for “Band Like That,” directed by David Sklubal. The playful, DIY aesthetic captures the collaborative spirit of fanclubwallet’s evolution, leaving you eager to hear what the full EP has in store.
fanclubwallet is set to take the stage at Ottawa’s Ice Dragon Boat Festival on February 15th.
