Canadian metal artist ONI, helmed by vocalist Jake Oni, has unveiled a new video for “Realign,” the latest single from his forthcoming EP, Genesis. Shot during ONI’s recent North American tour alongside Pop Evil and Bad Wolves, the video captures the band’s live energy, blending sweeping performance footage with candid tour moments. The single’s release continues to build momentum for the January 24th launch of the five-track EP, which promises a mix of new material and previously released tracks, including “Déjà Vu,” “Walk Away,” and “Control.”
Co-produced by ONI and Spiritbox’s Josh Gilbert, Genesis is the latest chapter in Jake Oni’s steady rise within the metal scene. Since forming the project in 2014, the artist has earned a reputation for blending progressive metal, metalcore, and melodic hooks, carving out a niche in a genre often resistant to experimentation.
ONI’s debut album, Ironshore (2016), marked a powerful entry, with production by Josh Wilbur (Avenged Sevenfold, Korn) and a guest appearance by Randy Blythe of Lamb of God. The 2022 follow-up, Loathing Light, further broadened his scope, featuring Iggy Pop and Blythe on standout tracks and earning spots on curated playlists like Spotify’s “Best of Kickass Metal.”
In 2023, ONI released The Silver Line, a dynamic full-length album featuring collaborations with notable names like Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens and Howard Jones, formerly of Killswitch Engage. The record showcased Jake Oni’s willingness to explore diverse sounds without straying from the intensity that defines his work.
As ONI looks ahead to the release of Genesis, the stakes feel higher than ever. With Realign highlighting the EP’s thematic focus on transformation and resilience, the artist appears ready to push boundaries once again.
