NOTHING MORE bassist Daniel Oliver tells us the highlights of their career

In the dynamic landscape of rock music, few bands have managed to carve out a niche as unique and influential as NOTHING MORE. This San Antonio, Texas-born quartet has risen to prominence, not just as another band on the scene, but as a musical force that embodies a rare blend of populism and intimate emotionalism. Their journey, marked by the creation of massive anthems woven from catchy hooks and deep, confessional lyricism, has resonated with a wide audience, mirroring the appeal of legendary acts like Deftones and Tool.

NOTHING MORE’s approach to music is characterized by a seamless fusion of heavy, thought-provoking emotional content and rich melodicism. This combination invites listeners into a world of introspection and connection, offering fresh rewards and deeper meanings with each repeat listen. It’s a style that has earned them a spot among the most cherished acts in the rock genre, appealing to a broad spectrum of rock enthusiasts who crave both the anthemic and the introspective in their music.

The band’s live performances are a testament to their unique position in the rock world. Touring with renowned hard rock heavyweights such as Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, and Disturbed, NOTHING MORE has demonstrated an ability to transcend the typical boundaries of live rock music. The Guardian astutely observed that there’s a “sophistication to NOTHING MORE’s angst that raises them above the tumult-tossed pit,” highlighting the band’s skill in blending raw energy with refined artistic expression.

Recognition of NOTHING MORE’s impact on the future of rock music has been widespread. Kerrang!, a leading voice in the rock music scene, named them one of the 22 Artists Shaping the Future of Rock, placing them alongside luminaries such as Nine Inch Nails, Twenty One Pilots, and Bring Me The Horizon. This accolade speaks volumes about the band’s influence and the expectations for their continued evolution in the genre.

The band’s inception dates back to 2003, when frontman Jonny Hawkins and guitarist Mark Vollelunga, having met before they were even old enough to drive, decided to embark on this musical journey. They were soon joined by bassist Daniel Oliver and later by drummer Ben Anderson, completing the lineup that would go on to shake the foundations of modern rock music. Their storytelling prowess, coupled with explosive musicality, has led to a string of successful releases, including a half dozen Top 10 singles at Mainstream Rock Radio. This impressive catalog features the No. 1 hit “Go to War” and the Sirius XM Octane song of the decade and Active Rock chart-topper “This is the Time (Ballast).” Their album, “The Stories We Tell Ourselves,” was a critical success, earning three Grammy nominations and solidifying their place in the annals of rock music.
