Nick Cave will bring Conversations With Nick Cave: An Evening of Talk and Music to Montreal on Sunday 2 May 2027 at Theatre St-Denis. The date was announced today as part of a 25-show North American run, the 2027 return of the tour Cave first took across the continent in 2019.
Registration for an artist presale is now open at nickcaveconversations.com.
The format is a mix of unvetted audience questions and solo performances from Cave’s catalogue at the piano. In a statement, Cave described the original run: “Years ago, in a peculiar state of mind, I travelled across the U.S., stepped onto stages in different cities, and fielded questions from the audience. It was a strange, almost desperate idea, but those nights became deeply healing for me. I hope the audience felt the same.”
He continued: “Eight years have passed. The Red Hand Files have grown in reach and stature; the topics of conversation have broadened, and it feels like the right time to return to America, a different America from eight years ago, and bring the Conversations… show back. I’ll have my piano with me, play some songs, and answer questions. What could possibly go wrong?”
The Red Hand Files, launched in 2018 as a place for Cave to answer questions sent in by fans, now has more than 250,000 subscribers and receives hundreds of questions a week.

The presale runs from Wednesday 11 November at 10 AM to Thursday 12 November at 10 PM, using unique codes sent to those who register. Most cities go on general sale on Friday 13 November at 10 AM; Montreal is the exception, with general on-sale at 11 AM through Ticketpro.

The 2019 Montreal show
The first Conversations With Nick Cave tour came to Eglise Saint-Jean-Baptiste on 27 September 2019. Questions that night covered rap, Leonard Cohen’s Songs of Love and Hate, his friendship with Michael Hutchence, mourning, and whether he believes in God, which drew the reply, “Sorry, I don’t have any insider knowledge about that.” He played Cohen’s Avalanche, Into My Arms and a short unaccompanied Devil Town for Daniel Johnston, who had died the week before.
Cave’s most recent visit was with the Bad Seeds on the Wild God tour at Place Bell in Laval on 24 April 2025: more than two hours with no opening act, closing with Cave alone at the piano for Into My Arms. Before that came a stripped-down show at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier on 12 October 2023, with Cave at the piano and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on bass, a 24-song set that ran 130 minutes.
