Every once in a while, a talent emerges from seemingly nowhere and becomes a voice for a generation, and on April 18th in Montreal, we may have witnessed it. It was the first night of a two-night sold-out show at Montreal’s MTelus for the stargazer himself, British singer-songwriter Myles Smith.
To kick things off, we had a fantastic set by a relatively new band called Tors. They’re a three-piece indie folk band from Devon, United Kingdom. Each of the three young brothers came to the stage with their own unique instruments: two guitars and a banjo. They performed with such grace and charm, entertaining the crowd to the max. Imagine a young Mumford and Sons or Lumineers. They were absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait to see how much better they’ll get.

Now, I must admit, their show could have been even better if they had a bit more production. They only had a big QR code, which was a bit of a bummer. But hey, they made jokes about it, which was a great way to lighten the mood. They were pretty much stationary, maybe because of the limited space on stage for Myles’s setup. But I’m sure they have more to offer in the future.

Myles, the stargazer himself, finally took the stage! The crowd was electric, packed to the brim with fans cheering as he sauntered out wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey. He immediately launched into “Wait for You,” setting the perfect vibe for an unforgettable night with this Luton, England native. His set was nothing short of spectacular! He poured his heart into every song, and there were these beautiful moments that really touched the crowd. One of them was when he noticed a drawing one of the fans had made of him. He went down into the barrier to say hi, and the fan was so gracious as to give him the portrait. He was over the moon, blown away by the kindness. Another amazing moment was when he took a moment to share some of his struggles with the audience. It was so moving, and everyone in the room felt a deep connection with him. He made us all feel comfortable and okay, and that’s what truly matters.

His songs are just masterfully crafted, and a few of them really stood out to me. “3AM” was a banger, “River” was beautiful, and of course, the massive hit “Nice to Meet You” was an absolute crowd-pleaser. But what really impressed me was his charisma and generosity towards the fans. His 13-song set came to an end with a fantastic performance of his hit “Stargazer.” He hopped into the crowd, danced, and sang with the fan, making it a truly unforgettable moment.
What a night! It was truly magical, and I can’t wait to see what this artist does next. If you missed one of his shows in our city last year, I highly recommend checking him out next time he comes to town—and don’t be surprised if it’s in a venue with Bell in the name. You won’t regret it!
