Montreal’s The Last Mile Unveil New Single, Announce Album

Montreal punk outfit The Last Mile has released their new single “Anything,” accompanied by a music video that signals the band’s evolution towards a more intense sound while maintaining their punk foundations.

The track serves as the lead single from their forthcoming sophomore album “Holding On To Hope,” slated for release on April 11th through a joint venture between Thousand Islands Records and Pavones Records.

For their latest offering, the band returned to Vancouver to work with producer Jesse Gander, whose credits include Brutus, Japandroids, and Daggermouth. Mastering duties fell to Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room, a studio with deep roots in the punk community.

The album’s visual aesthetic comes courtesy of Stealworks (aka John Yates), the graphic designer whose distinctive work has graced releases by genre stalwarts including Lifetime, Jawbreaker, Alkaline Trio, and Bad Religion.

“Anything” represents what the band describes as a thematic throughline of the new record—finding optimism in increasingly challenging times. The track aims to rekindle a sense of possibility for listeners feeling disconnected or disheartened.

“There was a time when people believed they could be anything they wanted, but that feeling is waning,” the band noted in a statement about the new single.

The 11-track album includes songs with evocative titles like “Give it a Name,” “Water Mary,” and “Broadstrokes,” suggesting the band continues to explore the personal and introspective themes that characterized their earlier work.

Since forming, The Last Mile has carved out a niche in Montreal’s vibrant punk scene by blending melodic hardcore with earnest lyricism. Their upcoming release suggests a more deliberate push into modern hardcore territory while honouring their punk origins.

“Holding On To Hope” marks the band’s first full-length release since their debut and represents what appears to be both a sonic progression and thematic continuation of their established ethos.
