Montreal’s Geneviève Racette begins a brand new year with “Same Old Me,” the lead single from her highly anticipated fourth album, “Golden.” This introspective track marks a new chapter for the folk-pop artist, showcasing her signature blend of raw vulnerability and captivating vocals.
Same Old Me plunges headfirst into the murky depths of self-doubt and insecurity, emotions that Racette grappled with after a night of social introspection. The song is a poignant call to action, questioning the cyclical nature of negativity and pushing listeners to embrace their perceived flaws. As Racette herself describes it, the track delves into “the destructive nature of insecurity,” inviting listeners to shed the burdens of self-judgment.
Racette co-produced the track with François-Pierre Lue, alongside contributions from trusted friend and musician Danielle Knibbe. The instrumental tapestry is rich and textured, featuring Matt Kelly’s pedal steel, the ethereal strings of Quatuor ESCA, and Marika Galea’s grounding upright bass.
Since her 2014 debut EP, she’s carved a niche in the Canadian music scene, captivating audiences with her heartfelt folk-pop narratives in both French and English. Her critically acclaimed third album, “Satellite” cemented her talent for connecting with listeners through themes of love, self-discovery, and reflection.
But Racette’s impact extends beyond music. A champion for female empowerment, over 80% of her team identifies as women. This commitment to inclusivity resonates throughout her career, creating a professional network that reflects her artistic values.
With “Golden” on the horizon, Racette is poised for even greater heights and “Same Old Me” sets the stage for a compelling new chapter, leaving fans and newcomers alike eagerly awaiting the release of “Golden.”
