Montreal-based duo Diamond Day released their debut album, Connect the Dots, on February 29. The album is characterized by its hypnotic, shoegaze-inspired sound, blending dreamy pop with darker, melancholic undertones.
The final track on the album, Tina, stands out as a profoundly personal ballad that addresses the complexities of living with schizophrenia and anosognosia. The song’s haunting melody is complemented by the surreal visuals crafted by Montreal director Robert Desroches. Béatrix Méthé, one-half of the duo, explained Desroches’ approach: “Robert had a strong vision for this one. He saw something that was dark and luminous at the same time. As if one fueled the other. He pictured a colourful implosion cutting through the softness of the song in this spooky retro-futuristic setting à la Severance.”
Quinn Bachand, the duo’s other half, echoed the song’s personal significance. “This song is super personal. It’s about my family, schizophrenia and denial,” he said, highlighting the emotional weight behind the music.

Diamond Day, consisting of Rosier’s Béatrix Méthé and Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Quinn Bachand, began as a project when Bachand moved to Boston as a teenager. The pair discovered their musical synergy after meeting at a festival, leading to weekend trips where Quinn would travel to Montreal to write and record in Méthé’s Plateau apartment.
The album features collaborations with notable names in the indie scene, including Jorge Elbrecht, Sebastian Kinsler of Feeble Little Horse, Kenny Gilmore (Ariel Pink, Weyes Blood), and others. Connect the Dots weaves together Méthé’s vocals and catchy hooks with Bachand’s noise-pop soundscapes, creating an album that is both immersive and introspective.
With its mix of janky glitch-pop drums, jangly guitars, and melancholic lyrics, Connect the Dots sets Diamond Day apart as a new voice in Montreal’s vibrant music scene. The duo’s ability to blend different genres and emotions into a cohesive sound suggests that they are a band to watch as they continue to evolve.
