Montreal-based indie folk artist Claire Morrison is kicking off her debut album roll-out with the release of her new single, “Travelling,” a track that blends stirring lyricism with a layered soundscape crafted by award-winning producer Rayannah. Known for her introspective approach and evocative storytelling, Morrison has steadily gained recognition in the Canadian indie music scene, being named a “Canadian artist to watch” by the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris back in 2021.
“Travelling” features Morrison’s signature vocal style, set against a backdrop of driving guitars and subtle electronic textures that give the track an edge, leaning into elements of both folk and alt-rock. The single is part of her forthcoming album Where Do You Go at Night?, expected in 2025.
Morrison explains, “Travelling is a wry look into the realization that your relationship isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, that something you thought was meant to soar just isn’t going to stay airborne. It’s about discovering the parts of someone that, try as you might, you just can’t ignore.”

Morrison’s recent collaborations have further expanded her sound and visibility. Earlier this year, she joined forces with Mariko on “Paroles d’enfants,” a track off Mariko’s latest record Avoir su avant, released by Quartier Général. She also teamed up with Belgian producer Olvo for “What It’s Like,” from his Ghost Beat Tape, Vol. 10, released in March. More recently, she collaborated with pataugeoire on “Une nuit à Paris,” a song that’s gained attention on Spotify’s Montreal Chill playlist.
These collaborations showcase Morrison’s versatility and willingness to explore different sonic landscapes. While she’s often compared to artists like Alanis Morissette and Laura Marling, Morrison’s music stands on its own, blending a folk sensibility with a willingness to experiment. Her intimate, fearless approach to songwriting continues to resonate with fans and critics alike.
“Travelling” is out now.
