The electrifying evening in Montreal unfolded with Mindforce, a standout in modern hardcore, making their debut at the iconic Foufounes Electriques club. Local bands Crosscheck and Scaramanga set the stage ablaze, paving the way for New York’s Combust, whose bombastic performance showcased their unique funky hardcore sound and left the crowd exhilarated. Keep an eye on Combust; they exude the gritty attitude synonymous with classic New York hardcore.
Next up was Age of Apocalypse, offering a melodic twist on hardcore with monstrous guitar riffs reminiscent of Life of Agony and Twitching Tongues. Their refreshing vocals, in a genre dominated by screams, left a lasting impression, making them an exciting discovery for those unfamiliar with their discography.
Mindforce, a force in modern hardcore, took the spotlight with their 2022 album “New Lords,” destined to become a hardcore classic. Launching into their set with unmatched energy, vocalist Jay ignited the crowd, urging them to embrace the chaos in the pit.
Favourites like “Destroyer,” “Words Fail,” and “Swinging Swords, Choppin Lords” resonated with fans, culminating in a frenzied finale with the classic “Excalibur,” pushing the crowd to the edge of madness. Despite a slightly short set, the intensity made it forgivable.
A special nod to Dave at Extensive Enterprise for his efforts in keeping the underground scene fresh and alive. The celebration of hardcore in Montreal, fueled by passionate bands and dedicated organizers, made for an unforgettable night.
