Marc Rebillet @ Place Bell

At the peak of the pandemic, one man went on a mission to entertain the masses via live streaming, only armed with a mic, keyboard, loop station and bathrobe.  That man is Marc Rebillet, a French-American electronic musician and YouTuber.

His improvisation, humour and beats created in his apartment in New York created a movement, a welcome distraction from the new normal.  Thankfully he decided to take his antics on tour.  I was lucky enough to catch “Loop Daddy” himself Saturday night at Place Bell in Laval.

The Kount got the party started, but although I didn’t make it till the tail end of this set, it did look like the crowd had a great time.  I’ve never seen so many bathrobes in my life, it seemed like everyone was in one or a onesie.  I even spotted a bunch of Pikachus, you know the lovely yellow Pokemon. This crowd was ready to embrace the weird, and let me tell you, they got it.

Marc entered the stage wearing his signature bathrobe and welcomed his fans to loud screams and cheers.  He did a great job all night of controlling the room; it was something to see. Having only seen a few videos of live streams in the past, I had no clue what to expect.  I guess that was the intriguing part.

I really enjoyed his set, so incredibly talented and a master at looping. Reminds me of a funnier electro Ed Sheeran. He really knew his audience and played to them, making them scream, relax, jump up and just have a grand time. Loved how he continually made an appearance in the crowd and how he would just scream stuff and make a song out of it.  Pure brilliance, like the song he made with Fuck Your Seats.

It was a collective experience, and everyone left the building with huge smiles.  His show has lots of crowd interaction, fire and lots of looping, baby.  It was a memorable night, and someone you should definitely check out if he’s in your city.
