Lorde to Bring Ultrasound Tour to Montreal

Twelve years after the release of her breakout single “Royals,” New Zealand’s Lorde is preparing to hit the road again—this time in support of Virgin, her fourth studio album, due June 27. The North American leg of the Ultrasound World Tour will include two Canadian dates, with a Montreal stop scheduled for September 27 at the Bell Centre.

The show will feature support from Blood Orange, a longtime collaborator who also contributed to the new record. The Japanese House joins the tour on both Canadian dates, though Montreal gets the exclusive addition of Blood Orange. The Toronto date, on September 24, will feature opening sets by the Japanese House and Chanel Beads.

Lorde’s last major tour, supporting Solar Power, had a notably scaled-back aesthetic, prioritizing intimacy over spectacle. This time, the stakes feel different. In a recent message to fans, she described Virgin as “our masterpiece,” and the live show as a “collaboration” with her audience. “Every show I play is a collaboration between you and me,” she wrote, “our bodies and the machines in search of something bigger.”

The upcoming album includes contributions from Daniel Nigro (known for his work with Olivia Rodrigo), Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes, Fabiana Palladino, Buddy Ross, and Andrew Aged. Lead single “What Was That,” released last month, hints at a shift in tone: less sun-soaked, more skeletal and emotionally immediate.

In conversation with BBC Radio 1, Lorde cited Charli XCX’s Brat as a creative catalyst. “It forced me to further define what I was doing,” she said. “Charli had so masterfully defined everything about Brat… it just gave me a kick.”

Tickets for the Montreal concert go on sale May 16 at 10 a.m., with a presale opening May 14 via Lorde’s official site.
