Laraw Returns with Quietly Luminous “Milk and Sugar”

Montreal alt-pop artist Laraw has released a new single, “Milk and Sugar,” a warm and understated track that continues to chart her evolution as a thoughtful and emotionally resonant songwriter. The single, released via Bravo, arrives less than three months after her French-language EP J’ai quitté le Heartbreak Club, and marks a return to English for the artist of Moroccan and Lebanese heritage.

“Milk and Sugar” unfolds with a gentle pulse, its breezy production and restrained vocal delivery capturing the tentative joy of re-entering intimacy. Co-written with Jeremy Lachance and long-time collaborator Tim Buron, the song centres on a quietly revealing lyric:

I know it’s been so long / Since I cared for / Somebody else but myself

It’s an unguarded moment, delivered without melodrama, that sets the tone for a track focused more on texture and feeling than hooks. Laraw’s ability to balance vulnerability and polish remains her strongest asset, and here it’s heightened by the spare, immersive production handled by the same trio. Mixing duties were also taken on by Buron, with mastering by Gabriel Meunier.

The single follows the success of her 2024 debut Quarter Life Crisis, which helped position her as one of the more distinctive voices in Canadian indie-pop. Tracks like “Standby Baby” received airplay on SiriusXM’s The Verge and Stingray Canadian Indie, while “Beaux yeux” hit No. 1 on CISM and spent several weeks in Stingray’s Top 5. The album also broke into Earshot’s National Top 30, signalling traction beyond just local buzz.

Laraw has steadily built a reputation through both studio work and live performances, having opened for artists such as Pomme and Jonathan Roy, and appearing at festivals including POP Montréal, Santa Teresa, M for Montréal, and Festival d’été de Québec. Her summer 2025 schedule includes confirmed stops at NXNE in Toronto (June 13), Sled Island in Calgary (June 18–19), Francos de Montréal (June 21), and the International Hot-Air Balloon Festival in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (August 10).
