The hardcore show in Montreal, headlined by Kublai Khan and featuring Sunami, Judiciary, and Momentum, lived up to its hype as one of the year’s most anticipated events. With Club Soda sold out, the venue was packed with eager fans from the scene.

Kicking off the evening, Momentum from Los Angeles received a warm welcome from the Montreal crowd, diving headfirst into a mosh pit frenzy with songs like ‘Occam’s Razor’ and ‘Relapse.’ Their strong performance likely earned them new fans in the process.

Next up was Judiciary, whose 2023 album ‘Flesh + Blood’ had garnered acclaim in the hardcore community. Mixing blistering guitar solos with heavy breakdowns, the Texan band delivered a technically impressive set that, while less danceable, was a pleasure to watch.

However, the spotlight was on Sunami for their first Montreal performance. As the anticipation in the venue reached a fever pitch, the band unleashed their brand of tough guy beatdown hardcore, igniting chaos in the crowd. Bodies flew, fists pounded, and fans danced with an intensity matching the band’s relentless energy. With a setlist featuring fan favourites like ‘Contempt of Cop’ and ‘Gate Crasher,’ Sunami left a lasting impression, albeit with a few attendees in need of medical attention—true to their intense reputation.

Closing the night was Kublai Khan, veterans of the hardcore scene, who delivered a pummelling hour-long set to their devoted fans. Despite personally attending for Sunami, I found myself impressed by Kublai Khan’s energetic performance, particularly enjoying their new song ‘Low Tech.’
In summary, this hardcore show was a highlight of the year, leaving attendees with unforgettable memories and a desire for Sunami’s swift return. Many thanks to the Extensive Enterprise team for making it all possible.
