Korpiklaani‘s recent performance at La Tulipe in Montreal was a raucous celebration of Finnish folk metal that left the crowd buzzing with excitement. From the moment the audience stepped into the venue, there was an undeniable energy in the air, a mix of anticipation and eagerness that set the stage for an unforgettable night.

The evening kicked off with a stellar opening act from Switzerland’s own ILLUMISHADE, whose blend of symphonic and progressive metal immediately captivated the audience. Led by the charismatic frontwoman Fabienne Erni, the band delivered a mesmerizing performance, showcasing their talent and passion for their craft. With their recent album “Another Side of You” providing the backbone of their setlist, songs like “Here We Are” and “Cloudreader” sounded even more impressive live, leaving fans eager for more.

Following ILLUMISHADE’s stellar performance, the stage was set for the main event: Korpiklaani. As the beloved pirates of Austrian melodic power metal took to the stage, the crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Led by the dynamic duo of Clémentine Delauney and Michele Guaitoli, VISIONS OF ATLANTIS delivered a high-octane set that had the audience on their feet from start to finish. With tracks from their latest album “Pirates” and previews of their upcoming release “Pirates II – Armada,” the band’s infectious energy and catchy melodies had fans singing along and moshing in the pit.

But it was Korpiklaani who truly stole the show, delivering a performance that was nothing short of electrifying. From the opening notes of “Kotomaa” to the closing chords of “Vodka,” the Finnish folk metal legends had the crowd in the palm of their hand. Frontman Jonne Järvelä’s inebriate vocals and infectious dance moves commanded the stage, while Sami Perttula on accordion and Olli Vänskä on violin added an extra layer of depth to the band’s sound.

With a setlist that spanned their entire career, from classics like “Wooden Pints” to newer tracks like “Aita” and “Rankarumpu,” Korpiklaani proved that they are as vibrant and energetic as ever. The intensity of the circle pit during songs like “Happy Little Boozer” and “Beer Beer” was a testament to the band’s enduring appeal, with fans losing themselves in the music and the moment.

With their infectious energy and irresistible melodies, they reminded us all why we fell in love with heavy music in the first place.
