Kim Gordon + Voyeur @ Beanfield Theatre▪

New York’s Voyeur opened the evening with a burst of eccentric underground rock, their unpredictable stage presence matching the raw energy of the music. The band’s enthusiasm gave the set a sense of barely controlled chaos, making for a lively introduction before the night shifted into darker, more experimental territory.

Kim Gordon focused firmly on her solo catalogue, drawing heavily from The Collective and her latest album, Play Me, rather than revisiting her work with Sonic Youth. Deadpan vocals, industrial beats, detuned guitars and hip-hop-influenced rhythms created a tense, abrasive sound that resisted easy categorisation. At 71, Gordon remains an unmistakable presence, delivering the material with characteristic restraint while the noise around her pushed toward controlled chaos.
