Insomnium + Omnium Gatherum + Wilderun @ Beanfield Theatre

This past Friday, the Beanfield Theatre welcomed a trio of bands—Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, and Wilderun—each bringing their own unique brand of darkness and melody to the stage.

Wilderun kicked things off with a cathartic opening, their symphonic progressive/folk metal resonating with the growing crowd. From the slow, grinding guitar-picking to the choir vocals that sent shivers down my spine, they set the stage for what was to come. Frontman Evan’s vocals soared to new heights, displaying a level of power and control that left me in awe. And with the dual guitar mastery of Evan and Wayne, bassist Daniel’s thunderous low end, and drummer Jonathan’s rhythmic precision, they captivated the audience with their genre-defying sound.

Next up was Omnium Gatherum, bringing their signature blend of melodic death metal to the stage. From the moment they launched into their set, it was clear that they meant business. Guitarists Markus and Joonas unleashed a torrent of blistering riffs, while vocalist Jukka delivered guttural growls that echoed through the venue. Bassist Erkki and drummer Tuomo provided a relentless rhythmic backbone, driving the music forward with relentless energy. Highlights of their set included tracks like “Frontiers” and “The Sonic Sign,” which showcased the band’s technical prowess and dynamic songwriting.

Finally, Insomnium took the stage, closing out the night with their haunting blend of doom and melodic death metal. From the opening notes of “1696,” they had the audience in the palm of their hand. Frontman Niilo Sevänen’s plaintive growls cut through the dense wall of sound created by guitarists Markus Vanhala and Ville Friman while drummer Markus Hirvonen laid down a thunderous rhythmic foundation. The set was a masterclass in atmosphere and emotion, with tracks like “Ephemeral” and closer, “Heart Like a Grave,” drawing the audience into a world of darkness and despair.
