Fresh New Sound: I HATE COMPUTERS – “You and I”

Toronto’s I HATE COMPUTERS are making waves with their debut single “You and I.” It is described as a moody, immersive, and raw blend of synths, layered guitars, and emotionally charged vocals. The track captures a collision of human vulnerability and digital noise, serving up a melancholic soundscape that’s hard to forget .

Fronted by Aaron Christie (vocals/guitar/synth), with Jeff Boulton (drums/percussion/synth/vocals) and Steve Davis (vocals/guitar/keys/bass), this trio digs into fractured identity and the ache of connections that never quite solidify. The refrain “Don’t want to let it go” lays it bare. It’s a reflection on feeling seen only in pieces, and the internal tug-of-war between how things look and how they actually are.

This single is the lead-off for their upcoming EP Die For You, out September 12, a collection they describe as a meditation on disconnectiondigital disillusionment, and the messy beauty of being human in a machine-filled world.

The music video hammers the theme home with a haunting image: a solitary astronaut drifting across a surreal landscape. It’s a fitting metaphor for emotional distance, even in intimate relationships when surface connections don’t match what’s beneath.

“You have to love a band with a sense of irony and self‑deprecation,” wrote Corus Radio’s Alan Cross, introducing the trio and their work .

Also worth knowing: when the synths are off, these three go acoustic as Before The Flood, delivering rich, organic folk songwriting. It shows another side of their artistry: stripped-back, honest, human.
