Hanorah Unveils Live Performance of ‘Heavenly One’

Montreal singer-songwriter Hanorah has shared a stunning live session video for “Heavenly One,” the lead single from her upcoming EP Closer Than Hell, set for release on May 9 via Ensoul Records.

The song marks a notable shift for the multidisciplinary artist, whose previous work drew heavily from classic soul and R&B traditions. “Heavenly One” trades that warmth for something more spectral: reverb-soaked guitars, layered vocals, and a pacing that allows emotional tension to slowly unfurl. Sonically, it leans into shoegaze-adjacent textures while lyrically grappling with fragility and fear following heartbreak.

Heaven, take your time on me,” she sings, a phrase that came to her mid-routine, during what she described as a moment of quiet emotional collapse. “I felt like I was irreparably damaged and would never again be able to fully enjoy the lightness and deep infatuation of a new relationship,” she wrote on her Substack. The song, she says, became a plea for patience—with herself and with love.

The live video, captured in a single unbroken take, was co-directed by Hanorah and frequent collaborator Kes Tagney, whose visual style has accompanied her previous releases like “Time Waits for No Woman” and “The Drudge.” Set in a surreal, dimly lit corridor that shifts toward a communal, almost ceremonial performance space, the video mirrors the song’s thematic movement—from isolation to a fragile kind of hope. Backed by a full band and a group of vocalists drawn from her circle of close friends, the performance truly allows Hanorah’s vocals to soar.

Hanorah has described Closer Than Hell as a quieter, more introspective project than 2021’s Good Guys/Bad Guys. While her earlier work showcased vocal acrobatics and sharper production, this latest material embraces restraint, revealing its strength through subtlety.
