Montreal punk mainstay Guilhem has released “Hangover Cure,” the third single from his upcoming solo album A Good One, due September 5. Known locally for fronting Lost Love and touring relentlessly across the globe, Guilhem’s solo material continues to strike a more introspective, if still spirited, tone.
Clocking in at just over three minutes, “Hangover Cure” is less about aspirin and hydration than it is about confronting personal messes, one Sunday morning at a time. “It’s about inadequacy and self-destructive behaviour,” Guilhem said in a statement, “but it also expresses a hopeful, yet uncertain, desire for a better future.”
The single arrives with a self-produced video, co-created with friend and collaborator Alex Charron. Shot in about an hour, the clip captures Guilhem performing in a single, spinning shot that’s just chaotic enough to reflect the song’s lyrical disorientation. “At first, I wanted the camera to spin the entire time,” he noted, “but Alex wisely pointed out that people would probably want to throw up after 15 seconds. He was absolutely right.”

While A Good One wasn’t conceived as a concept album, its songs seem to orbit around the shared anxieties of 2025: burnout, digital fatigue, social detachment and the awkward dance of trying to hold it all together. “At first, it was just a bunch of songs I needed to get out of my system,” Guilhem explained. “But somewhere along the way, it all started orbiting the same messy little galaxy of thoughts.”
The album was mixed and mastered by Frank Turner, the British singer-songwriter known for his own raw blend of punk and folk influences. Turner’s involvement brings added weight to the project, but Guilhem’s voice remains front and centre—honest, flawed, and refreshingly unfiltered.
“Hangover Cure” follows earlier singles “Die Quietly” and “Don’t Surrender,” continuing a release cycle that has shown Guilhem embracing vulnerability without abandoning the energy that’s earned him a loyal following. It’s music for those trying to make peace with themselves in a world that rarely slows down. For better or worse, A Good One promises to meet listeners exactly where they are.
