Montreal singer-songwriter Geoffroy is back with his fourth studio album, titled “Good Boy,” due for release on June 14th. This follows his 2022 release, “Live Slow Die Wise,” which explored themes of nostalgia and introspection.

“Good Boy” marks a shift in direction for Geoffroy. “Live Slow Die Wise had a slower pace,” he explains, “and I was eager to step away from the nostalgia and melancholy. I did what felt natural: a feel-good album (I think) that shed the weight of the other ones. I feel I’m getting closer to the sound I’m looking for, though I might be chasing something that’s faster than me.” The new album, created with longtime collaborators Clément Leduc and Gabriel Gagnon, is described as a more upbeat and feel-good collection.

The album’s direction was inspired by an unexpected source: a dog named Papi, whom Geoffroy befriended and adopted while travelling in Mexico.

The album’s lead single, “C.A.Y.A.” (meaning unknown), exemplifies this newfound optimism. The song itself went through an evolution, with Geoffroy spending over a year crafting the instrumental before finally nailing the melody.

“There was something special about the music,” he reflects, “and I was determined to figure it out.”

Lyrically, “C.A.Y.A.” embraces themes of self-acceptance and staying true to oneself. “This song is all about being real and true to yourself, no matter what,” says Geoffroy. “It’s about sticking to who you are, even when the world tries to push you to change.”
