Fontaines D.C. Announce Fifth Album Dopamine Chamber for October 16

Fontaines D.C. have announced their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, out October 16 on XL Recordings. The lead single, “Marianne,” is out now.

James Ford produced the record, returning after his work on 2024’s Romance. That album went platinum in the UK, took the band to arena stages, and completed a run that began with 2019’s Dogrel. Romance also marked the point where the Dublin group’s guitar-driven post-punk started giving way to something looser and more produced. Dopamine Chamber is being positioned as a further step in that direction, away from the guitar language of the early records and toward colder, more synthetic textures.

The stated subject matter is the collapse of distinction between gratification and dread: artificial intelligence, environmental breakdown and political violence circulating through the same feeds as memes and celebrity gossip. Whether the music carries that weight is a separate question, and one that will not be answered until October.

The announcement did not include Canadian dates. Fontaines D.C. have played Montreal repeatedly across their run, most recently at larger rooms as the audience has grown, and any North American touring behind Dopamine Chamber would be expected to include the city. Nothing has been confirmed.
