FME 2024: Saturday Night Live

Morning of recovery because of lack of sleep.

Goodbye Karelle

Goodbye Karelle

One feature of FME is secret shows announced 1 hour prior to the performance in a secret location. Goodbye Karelle would play next to the Tennis courts.

Moody and retrospective, Karelle Tremblay invited us into a world with raw and honest songs.

Marontate

I was able to catch a few songs by Marontate from Montreal at Le Polonais Cocktail Bar.

Soulful with a touch of country vibe, Annie Wren performed for the 5 à 7 crowd sipping fancy cocktails.

Marontate would fit perfectly outdoors on a hot summer day, in full relax mode. The music might not make you dance, unless you feel like a serenade…then maybe!

Lemongrab

Lemongrass

What is better than catching Lemongrab at FME? Getting to see them twice!

Just as entertaining as two nights prior, maybe even better! There is just something captivating from seeing them perform live.

PyPy

To call PyPy just a band is like calling Cirque du Soleil a carnival side-show.

Needless to say, my choice for concert I would pay $100 to see when then next come to Montreal…PyPy.

Lucky for us, they are just $20 for their album launch at Fairmount Theatre: Tickets

Kaya Hoax

I saw Kaya Hoax the day prior, for the Bonsound industry BBQ, by the pool on a beautiful hot day, with hot dogs and cool drinks.

Kaya Hoax in a dark room with a light show is a whole different vibe.

Great crowd participation made this a dance party, with amplified energy.

Marie Davidson

The dance party exploded with DJ Marie Davidson from Montreal.

I heard that if a DJ performs with extensive light shows, and pyrotechnics, such as Ultra Music Festival or Tomorrowland…you are getting a pre-recorded set with wrestling-like acting. There is just too much at stake with such expensive productions, that there is no room for error.

Having DJ’ed myself for a quarter decade, back when we had to use a slider on vinyl to sync beats…I always appreciate the craft of such artists.

Marie would escape from behind the decks to sing, dance and interact with the audience.

It really did seem like the mixes were being done live, or at least being modified in real-time. It was impressive to watch and the crowd was dancing non-stop.

Conclusion

Another great day of music with a great variety for every musical taste. Sofia Nolin had an overpacked crowd for that 5 à 7, which I missed. PyPy was insane, intense and my pick of the day. Loved the dance party to close out the night.
