Tonight there was an appointment in Montreal given by US metalcore band Emmure to its fans as the Soda Club welcomed “The Eternal Enemies Tour” including Emmure, Fit For A King, Kublai Khan and Sylar.
The Acacia Strain unfortunately have not been able to play the show tonight and Toronto tomorrow after their touring van was hit by a drunk driver earlier in the day. Fortunately, no-one appears to have been hurt.
At 6:30pm, the lights go down as local group COMEONRANGERS opens the hostilities into a room that is still filling up. The show must go on though and there’s a good energy on stage and the singer doesn’t hesitate to make few interactions with the crowd.
Next up, Sylar, a band coming from New York like headliners, Emmure. One hour earlier their van got broken into in Montreal and all of their money was stolen. Seems the bands are being followed by bad luck today! When Jayden Panesso, the frontman, and his bandmates come onstage the room is nicely full. The sound is loud, we can feel the inspiration of Emmure in Sylar’s style; comfortable on the stage the band’s aggressive songs suit their mood perfectly as they encourage mosh pits and circle pits in the room.
Kublai Khan from Texas have a much more hardcore sound than the rest of the line-up. Singer, Matt Honeycutt, has a very good presence on stage and their sound is powerful. Their hardcore is raw, energetic and uncompromising and they go down well with tonight’s audience.
At 8:30pm, Fit For A King, a Christian metal band from both Dallas and Tyler, Texas, owns the stage for a very promising 30 minute set. The crowd is warmed up thanks to the previous groups, especially since Kublai Khan’s energetic performance, and the club is filled and ready to listen to the powerful metalcore. We can notice that the singing parts of Tuck the bassist are a bit disappointing but, luckily the scream of frontman Ryan Kirby is very good, and his band plays a great set: A band to see.
Finally, the heros of the evening, Emmure, appears on the stage. As soon as the first notes blast from the speakers the crowd goes totally crazy. Frontman, Frankie Palmeri, feels the energy in the room, telling the crowd, “Montreal, you are crazy!” They prove his point with uncountable stage dives, a healthy mosh pit and plenty of screaming the words back to the stage. The charisma of Frankie Palmerie, their singer, is undeniable. Some might think that he is almost possessed. As usual they give us a show with a setlist which satisfied everyone. 10:20pm Emmure leave the stage to the applause of a crowd conquered, returning to deliver the finishing blows of “When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong”.
