How does an unsigned band manage to top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart? (“When I’m Gone was the first ever track to reach number 1 by an unsigned band)

Why are there so many great bands coming out of L.A?

What did John Lennon really mean when he sang “Happiness Is a Warm Gun”?

These are some of the questions that I asked Marc Labelle, the lead singer of Dirty Honey.

The answers and a lot of great insights about music are available in the video below.

We talked about the renaissance of rock which stems from a new yearning for authentic music.  Dirty Honey is pushing the sound of rock n roll forward with their own fresh spin. You can hear hints of AC/DC, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes and so many other tasty flavours carefully blended into their songs.  Marc’s voice has been rightfully compared to Steven Tyler’s and Axle Rose’s as it’s full of power, grit and that intangible force that makes rock so sexy and exciting.

The band formed in 2017 and also includes guitarist John Notto, bassist Justin Smolian, and drummer Corey Coverstone. Dirty Honey was nominated for Best New Rock/Alternative Artist for the 2020 iHeartRadio Music Awards.  Their self-titled album (released in April 2021) was listed as the 30th best rock/metal album of 2021.  And although they have over 45 million streams on Spotify, they are not resting on their laurels. During his “down time” when he’s not touring, Marc is always writing songs, so I’m looking forward to hearing new music.

Dirty Honey has been touring EU and UK this summer supporting Kiss, Rival Sons and Guns N’ Roses and will be performing in Montreal on September 19th @clubsodamtl. Already gaining a reputation for fun, high-energy live shows, it’s going to be such a treat to see them at such an intimate venue. I can’t wait!
