Montreal death metal veterans Cryptopsy have announced their ninth studio album, An Insatiable Violence, due June 20 via Season of Mist. It marks their first release since 2023’s As Gomorrah Burns, and the first since earning a JUNO Award for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year.

Known for pioneering a uniquely brutal and technical sound since the early ’90s, Cryptopsy return here with a record shaped by both creative restlessness and the stark realities of the digital age. Vocalist Matt McGachy says the concept came to him in a dream—a metaphorical machine that tortures its user, who willingly rebuilds it each day. “It reflects our toxic relationship with social media,” McGachy explains, describing An Insatiable Violence as a modern horror story filtered through death metal’s most punishing extremes.
Lead single “Until There’s Nothing Left” showcases the band’s ability to balance sheer velocity with unnerving groove. Drummer Flo Mounier, still razor-sharp more than 30 years into his tenure, pushes deeper into dynamic phrasing while maintaining the rhythmic assault he’s long been celebrated for. Guitarist and producer Christian Donaldson anchors the album’s production with clarity and weight, while bassist Oli Pinard’s contributions are especially prominent on tracks like “Fools Last Acclaim.” The record also features a guest vocal appearance from former frontman Mike DiSalvo.

Cryptopsy began writing while on tour in 2023 with Death to All, a new process that brought a tighter focus to the songwriting. “We wanted this album to be more groovy,” says McGachy. “So that people can really latch onto these songs when we play them live.”
The album’s visual presentation includes artwork by the late Martin Lacroix, a former Cryptopsy vocalist and respected visual artist. The band calls his involvement “an honour” and a tribute to his lasting place in the group’s history.
