Creeping Death + guests @ Bar Le Ritz

Extensive Enterprise always brings the best extreme tour packages to Montreal. The evening was going to be filled with intense, brutal death metal.

The first band Tribal Gaze from Texas quickly set the tone for the evening. This newer death metal band will release their next album on Maggot Stomp records. As with the Maggot Stomp style, Tribal Gaze provided us with chugging death metal with slow-pounding riffs with just a little bit of hardcore influence. Many in the crowd were unfamiliar with them, but it did not take long for a mosh pit to erupt. The fantastic dual guitar work provided some melodic interludes and blistering guitar solos between the heavy crushing beats.

The next band was Las Vegas’ Spirit World; as they were setting up, the crowd didn’t know what to expect. They were dressed in rhinestone cowboy clothes. The crowd was confused after the brutal onslaught of Tribal Gaze. Spirit World walked on stage fully dressed as cowboys, complete with nice cowboy hats. All eyes were on them as they proceeded to explode in a fury of modern of thrash metal with a hardcore influence. The band was charismatic and quickly won the crowd over with their fast-paced sound containing a lot of Slayer influences. Their set was very high energy, and they were one of the stand-out bands of the evening.

Vomit Forth was up next, and there was a lot of excitement. Their new album Seething Malevolence has been getting a lot of hype from both the Death Metal and Hardcore scenes. As was the theme of the evening, they delivered a brutal performance filled with chunky heavy slam riffs. Their brand of death metal was perfect for the mosh pit, and the crowd enjoyed it. The guitar riffs were groovy and provided some great headbanging riffs.

The crowd was very excited for 200 Stab Wounds. They were in Montreal recently enough touring with Gatecreeper, but everyone wanted more. As their name implies, there is nothing subtle about this band. Their 2021 album Slave to the Scalpel has become a modern-day death metal classic. It combines the brutality of heavy low riffs, breakdowns filled with chunky and groovy riffs and fast-paced guitar solos. They played crowd favourites such as “Drilling your Head” and “Itty Bitty Pieces.” They even performed a new song that sounded fantastic; I cannot wait to hear their new album. 200 Stab Wound is part of this amazing old-school death metal revival that is bringing the genre back to its roots with a dose of macabre humour in its lyrics.  A great performance by an exciting new and upcoming band.

It was time for our headliner, the Texas Death Metal band, Creeping Death. Under a hue of blue light on the stage, they started their pummeling assault of old-school death metal mixed in with some modern hardcore influence. The band played a solid set mixing faster riffs with some slow chunky beat as the crowd moshed and danced. We were even treated to a new song during their set that will be released on their next album. The band was energetic throughout their set as they jumped around playing.

An entertaining performance by one of the trendsetters of the new death metal scene.

Overall, it was an excellent evening for fans of brutal metal music. Thanks to Extensive Enterprise and Bar Le Ritz for the great show!
