Because Montreal Deserves Maximum Chaos

The intergalactic barbaric overlords of shock metal are descending upon Mtelus on June 10th, 2025, and we’re giving one lucky pair of humans the chance to witness this cosmic bloodbath firsthand.
GWAR, those magnificent grotesques from Richmond, Virginia, have been terrorizing audiences for over four decades, transforming concert venues into splatter-film sets where fake bodily fluids rain down like unholy baptisms. Since 1984, these self-proclaimed alien warriors have carved out a niche so singular that they’ve become legends in their own mythology.

The Prize That’ll Make Your Neighbours Question Your Sanity
This package coincides with their July 25th release of the Gor Gor EP. Winners receive:

- Etched vinyl with 32-page comic of the Gor Gor EP
- CD with 32-page comic of the Gor Gor EP
- Gor Gor plush toy (yes, really)

For the uninitiated, Gor Gor represents one of GWAR’s most beloved creations—a towering monster that embodies everything brilliant about the band: simultaneously terrifying and ridiculous, sophisticated yet primitive.
Why GWAR Still Matters
GWAR is an American heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, composed of and operated by a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists, and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. But calling them simply a “heavy metal band” is like calling Cirque du Soleil “some acrobats.”
Identified by their distinctively grotesque costumes, Gwar’s core thematic and visual concept revolves around an elaborate science fiction-themed mythology which portrays the band members as barbaric medieval nordic, mythological, biblical or interplanetary warriors. They’ve created an entire universe where rock and roll serves as the soundtrack to cosmic warfare.
Since its formation, Gwar has released 15 studio albums, two live albums, and numerous singles among other recordings, and has sold over 820,000 records in the United States. More impressively, they’ve expanded their brand into territories most bands wouldn’t dare: books, comic books, board games, beer, whisky, barbecue sauce, CBD, e-liquids, toy collectibles, and sex toys.
The band faced its greatest challenge in 2014 with the death of frontman Dave Brockie, who portrayed the iconic Oderus Urungus for three decades. The collective has continued without any founding members, proving their concept transcends individual performers.
Montreal Meets Intergalactic Mayhem
Montreal has always embraced theatrical metal, from our thriving black metal scene to experimental noise artists. GWAR represents the logical extreme—they’ve never pretended their stage violence is anything other than elaborate performance art.
With over-the-top violent, sexual, and scatological humor typically incorporating social and political satire, Gwar has attracted both acclaim and controversy for its music and stage shows, the latter of which notoriously showcase enactments of graphic violence that result in the audience being sprayed with fake blood, urine, and semen. In other words, dress accordingly.

Final Transmission
GWAR’s longevity stems from understanding that heavy metal is about transformation—taking life’s brutalities and transmuting them into something powerful and liberating. In a landscape of algorithm-friendly singles and sanitised performances, GWAR remains defiantly analog, messily human despite their alien personas.
When GWAR comes to Montreal, you don’t just attend a show—you participate in a ritual that’s been refining itself for forty years. The Scumdogs of the Universe are calling. Will you answer?
Contest runs until midnight on June 6.
Must be 18+ to enter.
Montreal Rocks is not responsible for alien abduction, costume stains, or existential crises.
