Alissa White-Gluz announced the formation of her new band, Blue Medusa, on International Women’s Day, marking her first major project outside of Arch Enemy in over a decade. The Montreal-born vocalist revealed the lineup alongside confirmed live debuts at Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals, with new music described as imminent.
The core recording lineup is a trio: White-Gluz fronting guitarists Alyssa Day and Dani Sophia. For live performances, she has tapped bassist Alicia Vigil and drummer Delaney Jaster to round out the band. White-Gluz described the creative dynamic with Day and Sophia as “really bringing me back to life,” a pointed contrast to the decade-plus she spent expanding Arch Enemy’s global reach.
White-Gluz has framed Blue Medusa as a fully autonomous creative outlet. “It’s my creative melting pot,” she said in the announcement. “Everything fans enjoy about the energy, intensity, and performance they’ve always experienced on stage with me over the past two decades is still here, even stronger.” She cited blazing guitar solos, brutal vocals, and what she called “cogitative lyrics” as defining elements of the new project.
The International Women’s Day timing was deliberate. White-Gluz has long been one of the most visible women in extreme metal, and she used the announcement to frame the band partly as a platform for the next generation of women in the genre. “I’ve been carving my own path in this genre for a long time, and I want to help pave the way for the next generation of women who love metal as much as I do,” she said.
No release date has been set for new music, and no additional tour dates beyond the two festival appearances have been announced.
