Alice Glass @ Le Belmont

Following her highly anticipated full-length solo debut album “Prey//IV” released on February 16th 2022, Alice Glass danced her way through North America for a 16-date run of her “Traumabond” tour, as well as performing older fan favourites such as “Celestica,” “Love and Caring,” and “Alice Practice.”

This was her first solo run post-departure from her band Crystal Castles in 2014, with an official statement released in 2017.

Alice Glass has proven to us once again that recovery is always an additional strength and has reminded fans of the importance of taking the time that you need to heal.

One of the most influential Electro-Punk artists of all time, her solo “Traumabond” tour was a beacon of hope for many young fans dealing with trauma and abuse.

Her strength is resilient, and it was a privilege to finally watch her enjoy herself on stage just as much as we did watching her.

Upon arriving at dimly lit Le Belmont, Alice Glass’s signature red lights gave the atmosphere a sort of eerie anticipation. You could feel the excitement pulsating off of everyone around you.

The real minutes leading to her opening song felt close to eternities. I knew at that moment this was going to be one of the most memorable shows I’ve ever been to.

I finally managed to grab a spot at the front of the stage with my just as enthusiastic entourage. Screams immediately filled the room around me, and I quickly turned around and saw the one and only Alice Glass right in front of me.

The first thing I noticed was her smile. From the moment she saw all her fans who were there to see her, she was just radiating with happiness and thanked us all for being there with her.

I felt so welcomed already. I was particularly warmed by how safe she made everyone feel, especially the women, which is always very important to me. I had such massive respect for her before the show, and not even 10 minutes in, my respect has nearly doubled.

Her opening number was “Alice Practice,” a fundamental song in her career and name. I was astounded when she played this right off the bat, as it’s surely a classic. However, I like to think of it as how fine wine or cheese ages. It really only gets better with time…

Alongside other classics, she also performed beloved hits such as “Cease and Desist” and “White Lies” off her eponymous EP released in 2017. She also played some of my personal favourites, “PREY,” “Love Is Violence,” and “Pinned Beneath Limbs” off her latest album, “PREY//IV.”

Midway through her performance was when I first noticed she was her own sound tech. Not even a setlist was needed. She had her laptop sitting on the floor next to her and was doing everything herself, which blew me away.

She doesn’t need anyone else by her side; in fact, there just isn’t room. There isn’t anyone else doing what she is doing. It was a great pleasure and added privilege to be able to watch her and be just as happy as she is now.
