Slayyyter + Pearly Drops @ Beanfield Theatre▪

Pearly Drops

Up on stage to get the night started was Pearly Drops, an indie-pop duo from Finland. Their sound was ambient and chill, with drums and bass that never overpowered the rest of the production, but did encourage you to dance along.

Their lyrics were catchy and repetitive, vocals high and slightly distorted. These two exuded confidence while performing, taking turns singing into a microphone or playing around with a midi controller.

Pearly Drops were a great opener for Slayyyter, the crowd responded well to their performance, and it got everyone in the mood to dance without having them expend too much energy. The real party was about to begin, and Slayyyter fans were so ready for it!

Slayyyter

While waiting for Slayyyter to have her turn on Beanfield Theatre’s stage, I took in the set at the background of the stage and my excitement rose. The front of a house with two large windows and a door could be seen, equipped with an overhanging roof, lawn chairs, a huge cross leaning on the wall of the house, a clothes line as well as an elevated drum kit set up underneath said line. Fake cattail plants were peppered around the stage too. Just when I was thinking this stage setup was perfect for her WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA Tour, the crew brought out a carousel horse! Slayyyter was about to bring this audience into her own world through this performance, and I could not be more ready!

Right on schedule, the house lights were switched off, and the crowd let their voice be heard loud and clear. Her opening track, “DANCE…” started to rise into everyone’s ears, and the crowd’s cheering erupted in level once the song dropped and the front door of this house swung open, revealing Slayyyter herself.

It was a sight to behold. Lights were shining through those large windows, a fan blew her hair back while she stood in front of the stage to sing. We were only on the opening song of her set and the vibe was already feeling so… American girl angelic.

The sound mixing for this show was so incredible, the best I’ve heard in a good while! Even with the loud bass that shook the bones in my body, and the audience screaming every single lyric, I could hear Slayyyter’s phenomenal voice so clearly. Not one word of hers was hard to understand, that microphone was on and I was so thrilled to be able to hear her vocals without issue throughout the night.

There was no doubt that this audience was looking forward to this show since her album dropped. Not one person stood still, I was up on the second floor and could feel my seat bouncing up and down from the hundreds of people dancing. The crowd ate up everything she did, the energy in the room was so intoxicating!

I am a huge fan of live drums for a pop show, and I was loving it for Slayyyter’s show. It added an incredible amount of depth to each song, and paired with the live electric guitar it made me crave a rock album from Slayyyter. She’s already a rockstar after all!

She was made for the stage, her presence and attitude while performing is so addicting, it rubbed off onto everyone in her audience and we all danced hard along with her.

This was not a show I wanted to miss, and I was so far from being disappointed. I went home and immediately showed my roommate videos I had taken, desperately trying to relive this experience I had just had. I’m really looking forward to any of Slayyyter’s future projects, and you will certainly see me at her next show in Montreal!
