Salebarbes released their fourth album, Ça veut rien saouère, on digital platforms this morning. The physical edition follows on Friday, 11 September. The band mark the release with an online launch tonight, starting at 7 PM Eastern, 8 PM in the Maritimes.
The record runs to ten songs and keeps the group in the territory they have worked since forming: country filtered through Acadian blues, sung in French and in chiac. It is their first full-length since the run of touring that turned them from a side project into one of the busiest live acts in Quebec and the Maritimes.
Salebarbes came together as a gathering of musicians who already had careers elsewhere. Jean-François Breau, Éric Dubeau, Kevin McIntyre, George Belliveau and Jonathan Painchaud built the band around the sound of a kitchen party rather than a stage show, and the recordings have kept that looseness. The material draws on Louisiana swamp blues, zydeco and the Acadian tradition all three of the New Brunswick members grew up inside.
