Magi Merlin Announces Debut Album

Magi Merlin has released a new single, SpiceKick, and confirmed her debut album POWER HOUSE will arrive July 10, 2026 via Bonsound.

The Montreal artist dropped the track alongside a video directed by Félicie Diaz and Noshirt, built around tight choreography and a restless visual pace that matches the song’s clipped rhythms and abrupt shifts. The release lands as Merlin kicks off the album cycle with a free show at The Baby G in Toronto, the first date tied to the new material.

SpiceKick follows POPSTAR, which surfaced earlier this year and picked up early radio support in the UK through BBC Radio 6 Music. That track arrived while Merlin was on a European run supporting Yaya Bey, part of a stretch that has seen her move steadily between North American and European audiences. The new single pushes further into a sharper, more percussive sound, with vocal lines that switch between restraint and confrontation within the same phrase.

Merlin has described her approach as “broken R&B,” though the tag doesn’t hold for long. Her recordings pull from house, indie pop, and hip-hop without settling into any one lane, often shifting structure mid-song. She co-produces her work with longtime collaborator Funkywhat, shaping both the sound and the visual direction of each release.

Her 2022 EP Gone Girl marked an early step, followed by a run of singles and the smaller project A Weird Little Dog. Since then, she has appeared at Osheaga, Festival d’été de Québec, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival, while also touring with Nubya Garcia and reworking tracks like IDLES’ POP POP POP for live sessions.

POWER HOUSE is set as a 12-track record, with Merlin handling much of the writing and production direction. The album builds on the shift already visible in the recent singles, with tighter arrangements and a focus on rhythm-driven structures over layered instrumentation.

Following the Toronto show, Merlin’s schedule moves back to Europe, with festival dates booked in France and Belgium through the summer.
