Stephen Wilson Jr. Prepares Grunge Covers Release

Stephen Wilson Jr., the Nashville‑based singer‑songwriter from rural Indiana, quietly unveiled Blankets, a four‑track covers EP set to arrive on August 29 via Big Loud Records  . The announcement dropped alongside his studio cover of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” a song he says he “used to listen to … 100 times a day,” noting the raw magic in how Kurt Cobain “sang it laying down on his back.”

The EP’s track list is tight but revealing: Something in the Way; Temple of the Dog’s Hunger Strike; The Postal Service’s Clark Gable; and Smashing Pumpkins’ Tonight, Tonight.

In addition to the EP, Wilson Jr. confirmed a headline date at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on April 18, 2026, building on shows like his Red Rocks debut supporting Eric Church and his Newport Folk Festival appearance this July. He’s also in the midst of a sold‑out søn of dad tour and continues supporting HARDY on the Jim Bob Tour through September.

A self‑described blend of indie rock and country—“Death Cab for Country”—Wilson Jr.’s path from microbiologist‑turned‑songwriter in Indiana to Nashville rising star is well documented. His debut double album søn of dad earned critical praise and he’s since made television debuts on Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Later… with Jools Holland.
