Destroyer Returns with New Single, Montreal Show Announced

Destroyer has released “Cataract Time,” a track that finds Dan Bejar exploring new sonic territory with longtime collaborator John Collins. The song serves as the centrepiece of their upcoming album Dan’s Boogie and showcases a nuanced approach to the band’s evolving sound.

The track balances a deceptively easygoing groove with what Bejar describes as “the heaviest thing I’ve ever written.” Collins’ production, particularly what Bejar calls “filigree harps,” transforms the composition into something unexpected.

“The song is a reckoning, a dressing down, a walk in the park where you carefully record your steps and describe the park and somehow the recording and the description undoes you,” Bejar explains. “There is a lightness that points to a future, even if I think it’s the heaviest thing I’ve ever written.”

The release accompanies the announcement of Destroyer’s first full-band North American tour in nearly three years, which will feature the seven-piece lineup performing songs from the forthcoming album.

Montreal fans can catch the band at Foufounes Électriques on October 9, marking their return to the city’s iconic venue. The Montreal show falls near the midpoint of an extensive tour that begins September 23 in Eugene, Oregon and concludes October 26 in Vancouver.

Other Canadian dates include Toronto’s Opera House on October 8 and a homecoming show at Vancouver’s Vogue Theatre on October 26.

Tickets go on sale Friday, March 7 at 10 AM local time.

Dan’s Boogie is scheduled for release through Merge Records.
