Silverstein + Thursday @ Olympia

In a city bracing for snowfall, L’Olympia’s weathered walls contained a different kind of storm last night. Fresh off their Toronto valentine to fans, Silverstein brought their 25 Years of Noise tour to Montreal, proving that time has only strengthened their connection with the faithful.

The evening took an unexpected turn during Thursday‘s set when the venue’s fire alarms interrupted their blistering performance. Frontman Geoff Rickly, joined by Alexisonfire’s Wade MacNeil, had just worked the crowd into a frenzy when the sudden interruption came. After firefighters gave the all-clear, Thursday managed to squeeze in two more songs, leaving the audience wanting more.

When Silverstein took the stage, the packed house erupted. The Ontario post-hardcore veterans crafted a setlist that felt like flipping through a well-worn photo album, each song capturing a moment in their quarter-century journey. From their raw EP days to modern staples like “The Afterglow,” the band moved through their catalogue with the ease of seasoned storytellers.

Watching Shane Told command the stage, it’s hard to imagine him as just one of “five dudes from Canada” making noise in a Burlington basement. But that’s exactly where this story began, and judging by the circle pits and crowd surfers at L’Olympia, it’s far from over.
