Ethel Cain Announces Second Album, Perverts

Tallahassee-born singer-songwriter Ethel Cain has revealed her sophomore album, Perverts, set for release on January 8. The announcement was shared on her Instagram, where she also teased the album’s lead single, “Punish,” due out November 1. Known for her haunting, evocative soundscapes and storytelling that delves into themes of Americana, religion, and trauma, Cain’s return has been eagerly awaited by fans and critics alike.

Cain first made waves with her 2022 debut, Preacher’s Daughter, a sprawling concept album that explores themes of small-town identity, family legacy, and religious guilt. The record cemented her reputation for creating rich, emotionally charged music that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. Since then, she’s been busy making her mark on the live music scene, joining Florence and the Machine on tour and sharing a live version of “Morning Elvis” with Florence Welch earlier this year. Recently, Cain also completed a series of shows with indie star Mitski, further showcasing her ability to captivate diverse audiences.

Though Cain has shared limited details on Perverts, the album title hints at another raw, introspective journey. Her storytelling, often described as cinematic, combines Southern Gothic influences with electronic and folk-tinged production, making her one of the more distinctive voices to emerge in recent years.

In the lead-up to Preacher’s Daughter, Cain’s music found a dedicated online following, drawn to her unique blend of nostalgia and unsettling beauty. While mainstream success has so far eluded her, the singer continues to build a strong, engaged fan base, captivated by her fearless approach to confronting taboo topics and peeling back the layers of her own psyche.

Cain’s new music has already sparked anticipation among fans, who will get their first taste of Perverts with “Punish” next month.

About Ethel Cain:
Ethel Cain, born Hayden Silas Anhedönia, grew up in the conservative South, where her experiences in a strict religious household deeply influenced her music. Her work often reflects the tension between tradition and rebellion, with Cain portraying characters that struggle with identity, family, and faith. Blending elements of folk, rock, and electronica, she creates a unique sound that has drawn comparisons to artists like Lana Del Rey and Chelsea Wolfe, though her music stands apart for its blend of dark, Southern-inspired storytelling.
