Montreal-based musician Beatox (aka Adam Fainman) is gearing up to release his latest album, “Been a Long Time,” on June 7th, 2024.
The 11-track project, produced by Beatox himself, showcases his skills as a vocalist, producer, and beatboxer. Described as “groove-centric” with “loose, improvised jazz arrangements,” the album promises a departure from the isolation blues that inspired it.
Beatox, who also holds a master’s degree in Music Technology & Digital Media, isn’t afraid to experiment. The title track, “Been a Long Time,” reflects this. Released on April 4th with an accompanying animated video, the song is a “lighthearted meditation on finding happiness after the world goes sideways.”

“Been a Long Time” stemmed from a period of isolation for Beatox. Having returned to his hometown of Winnipeg in the midst of the pandemic, he found himself grappling with the harsh winter and a sense of disconnection. “It came out of some very dark days,” he says, “but I wanted to create something catchy and upbeat to counter those heavy feelings.”
This isn’t Beatox’s first foray into full-length projects. Since 2020, he’s released two albums: “The Beatox Experiment” (2021), a funky live jazz-rap effort, and “Musical Mind” (2020), a genre-bending exploration of beatboxing with various collaborators.
Beatox’s interest in technology extends beyond music. He actively explores the creative potential of new tools, from the Vochlea voice-to-MIDI controller to AI-generated visual animations for his songs. This fascination with innovation is sure to continue shaping his sound in the years to come.
