Lewis Capaldi @ Place Bell

“How am I feeling now? Pretty awesome after seeing Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi at Place Bell on April 11th, 2023. Fresh off the Netflix documentary, to say we were excited would be an understatement.

Before Lewis took the stage, the wonderful LA-born singer-songwriter Em Beihold performed. She got the crowd going with her songs “Groundhog Day,” “1, 2, 3, 4, 5”, and her hit “Numb Little Bug.” It was a strong set for this young singer, and we look forward to seeing her come into her own and totally explode in the future.

We were fully ready for Lewis; the crowd was excited, screams were getting more intense, and when he stepped out on stage, it was just wild. I’ve rarely seen such a full arena; it was a great sight to see. Lewis acknowledged that he was making bank this night compared to the smaller venues he’s been playing in the States. This was his first arena gig in North America, and let me tell you, it won’t be the last. He’s the most charismatic, funny, and down-to-earth man you will encounter on stage. He started the night off with “Forget Me” and “Forever,” which were delightful. Lewis seemed to be battling a cough, but that wouldn’t stop him from giving us the night of our lives.

This show felt like part music and part comedy, as his banter was quite humorous. You need to see this guy live. Some of the highlights for me were his banter and how he interacted with his fans. At one point in the evening, he spotted someone with a sign saying they had checked off all their list; to get to Montreal, go to a concert, and all that was left was to get a selfie with Lewis. Well, he happily agreed, and the lucky fan came up on stage to get the selfie. It was a very beautiful moment. My favourite performances were “Before You Go,” “Bruises,” “Grace,” and “Pointless,” along with him playing a new song, “Wish You The Best,” which was just beautiful. Again, I have to point out that this guy’s show is just a thing of beauty.

Unfortunately, the night had to come to an end with Lewis belting out “Someone You Loved.” It was a beautiful night indeed! He claimed he was Adele if she were a guy and not as good. I’d like to argue that they are both brilliant, and the world is better off with them in it.”
