Today we feature one of the best metal bands to break through in the past decade…. Gojira!
Hailing from Ondres, close to Bayonne in the South West of France, Gojira formed in 1996 when the band was known as Godzilla. They renamed to Gojira in 2001.
They are known for their environmentally-themed lyrics and have gone from utmost obscurity to being mentioned regularly “amongst the genre’s leading new millennium upstarts”, according to AllMusic. They’ve been working on new material and expect to release a new album in 2016.
The band last played Montreal when they opened for Mastodon at Metropolis in November 2014. They’ll be sure to win over yet more fans when they take to the stage at Heavy on Saturday 8th August. Don’t miss them!
