The Hell We Create Tour landed in Montréal’s L’Olympia on Saturday, and it was a high-energy night for all involved. Kingdom of Giants opened the night with their track “Burner,” and I knew I was in for a night of sicker breakdowns than my last depressive episode. The crowd surfing started at “Night Shift,” and only really let up during the breaks between the bands.
Alpha Wolf broke the pack with their Aussie accents and led off with “60cm of Steel”. Their set continued to “Creep” through the “Hotel Underground” and an “Acid Romance” because of the “Sub-Zero” temperatures outside the venue. I hold no regrets for that line of puns.
Between Alpha Wolf and Northlane, the crowd was not shy with their energy as they easily overpowered the house speakers while singing along to “Chop Suey” by System of a Down.
Northlane came in with a “Clarity” and “Plenty” of it. The Aussies welcomed us into their “Echo Chamber” to play some “4D” chess, but I should digress before I get “Carbonized” by my editor. By the time Northlane hit us with their “Bloodline,” I noticed that the crowd surfers weren’t just from the crowd, but the guitarists were going out for a ride.
I was surprised that I didn’t have to wait until the end of Fit for a King‘s set to hear “The Hell We Create” on the as-named tour, as they led off their set with it. “Falling Through The Sky” may be the third song they played, but it seemed more like Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary (bassist) wanted to jump straight into it almost every 30 seconds of a song. Ryan Kirby (lead vocals) gladly beamed to the hugely supportive Montréal crowd that the venue was the largest they had sold as a headliner on that tour to date. Tuck also went crowd-surfing on an inflatable Viking boat at one point. Very enthusiastic crowd throughout for a solid night of metal.
